What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The maps are randomly generated, so there's no single approach that is always going to work, the gameplay is tight, the AI is challenging but not overwhelming and long after you've stopped following the story the scenarios are still great to pick up and just play through a couple of times.
Frozen Synapse’s brilliance shines most in its multiplayer mode, where the psychological element of prediction reaches its peak.
The gameplay was truly innovative for the time, I'd never seen a turn-based strategy (really, turn-based tactical, but I want to keep calling it 'strategy') that let you move the other player's units around and play out various scenarios an effectively infinite number of times before.
The soundtrack is an electronic futuristic collection of tracks, and it is perfect music for getting lost in thought, focussing intently on your units’ every move.
And the DLC is worth it since it's less "DLC mission pack" and more "Expansion pack" (New Unit, New Campaign, Co-op Play, new scenarios).
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 3 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
