Champions is cheaper than Puyo Puyo Tetris, and accordingly, it has indeed less modes variations (since it’s just Puyo Puyo now, without the Tetris counterpart) and no story mode, but there’s a huge new feature: Fever– which is, simply put, a ruleset that rewards huge chain reactions and it can be even more fun than the standard Puyo Puyo 2 ruleset (which also can be played in this game).
Despite the heavy marketing towards the online multiplayer mode and competition against other players, Puyo Puyo Champions is also a great experience for solo players and local matches.
On top of that there is not any sort of campaign, and you don't get to see much of the characters outside the lines they say during gameplay.
Visually, the game embraces a bright, cheerful art style that is both nostalgic and fresh.
