I much prefer this vs the currently trendy brutal rogue-like super random arcade resetting, with variety unlocks but no real sense of progression and hopeless frustration of repeatedly beating your head into the wall.
The difficulty is due to an incredible level of game-balancing and not sadism - the difficulty builds wave to wave so you can see it coming from a mile off, you just may not be ready for it when it comes!
Although the graphics are relatively simple, they remain effective at conveying information during hectic battles where dozens of enemies and projectiles may be visible at once.
I like the audio (the sounds more than the music), though the sound effects are a bit loud compared to the music on the default settings (so I fixed it in the games audio menu).
