Much like the previous HeXen game, Hexen II is an enjoyable RPG-FPS hybrid, this time upgraded from the Doom engine to the Quake engine.

The games runs on a heavily modified Quake engine and the source code for this was released around 2000, which enabled modding, giving us patches for easy to use interface,bug fixes, Higher resolutions, the ability to change the size of the HUD and on-screen messages, CD music, easy to set co-op/multiplayer and more.
