Story and characters
Players who bring up Story and characters mostly praise it.
Actually I started off with The Second Front campaign which is a touch more accessible for newbies and then switched to Victory in the West once I was comfortable – again that helped with the learning curve.

At the start I was looking for that sugar hit of a clean interface with graphics that are easy on the eye, and it does deliver here.

What makes UOC1 and UOC2 masterpieces, in my opinion, is their ability through relatively streamlined and simplified gameplay to reflect the challenges faced by commanders on the operational level in the second world war (in the German army in particular).

I should mention the sound design as well - the soundtrack by Bruno Brabić is one the best in the genre and leagues ahead of contemporaries like Panzer Corps 2 and Steel Division 2.
