Basically, the whole experience is about communicating with a loved one through a chat, make dialogue choices that can lead to wildly different results, and affect your relationship with them, etc.
(So, might've been a nice interface addition to allow direct navigation to e.g. day sub-sections.)
Just like how is the case with reading a book, when you have no visuals to go off of, your imagination runs wild and you picture whole landscapes, whole people, full scenarios playing out.
