What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Speaking as a newcomer who didn't have to wait for years and years for the next entry in this series, this feels like such a smooth continuation of the story to me that if I hadn't just verified with Google that the original came out in 2005, I never would have believed it.
It offers a unique gameplay mechanic, a captivating story, and a lot of humor.
There's no harm done if you don't get around to playing it (or don't have the equipment), but they'll certainly make it worth the trouble with intuitive puzzles, excellent visuals, a clever use of VR and teleportation that fits perfectly in line with the original game, and some incredible writing.
The game's voice acting is superb, with most of the original cast reprising their roles.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 3 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
