What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
It's a given that, where many of the old classics are concerned, retro gaming is often quite the fun and joyous experience to be had whereas today's triple-A scene is largely filled with such anti-consumer and bad business practices (gambling lootboxes, padded-out season passes designed to extend grinding, premium currencies optimized with discounts encouraged for more spending with just out-of-reach pricing and DLC that is outrageously expensive compared to the expansion packs of old are just a few such examples sadly seen in multiplayer games and even some singleplayer entries of today) which makes going back to the old days of gaming so satisfying for many tried-and-tested gamers of the older generations.
The hand-drawn landscapes, expressive worm animations, and cheerful sound effects give the game a timeless feel.
The interface is similarly straightforward, giving the game a pick-up-and-play quality that suits its easygoing nature.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 5 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
