Half-Life

The mystery of the story is compelling too, unraveling in front of you as you move through the facility alongside Gordon himself, and the variety of environments and enemies (visually interesting but sometimes horribly annoying, like those floating brainlet guys near the end), kept tings interesting.

Half-Life may be a very linear game, but I always felt like I was exploring.

Whereas progression provides a feeling of freedom through self-paced exploration, it’s the brilliant combat that lets the player truly express themselves.

Ambient sounds, lighting, and texture work together to keep tension high and curiosity alive throughout the campaign.

Kelly Bailey's soundtrack is also one of the strongest parts of the game's atmosphere.

Half Life's multiplayer on its own was brilliant, but teamed up with team fortress and counter strike it simply blew everything else out of the water with its lightening quick gameplay that is missing from the modern versions.
