Collecting as many coins as possible is the key to getting extra lives and bombs as well as the true ending, but all coins collected are also added to a total, which can then be spent on a bunch of unlockables in the main menu.
As this game featured the keyword Barrage Musical, it indeed delivered good themes and each music score has their own title at the start of the stage.
The graphics are admittedly pretty low-resolution, but the character portraits are otherwise well-drawn and the overall art design is quite pleasant.
Barrage Musical ~A Fantasy of Tempest~ takes a lot of obvious inspiration from the Touhou games, but it has enough differences to make it more than just a glorified Touhou fangame, and its solid presentation and gameplay make it worthwhile for pretty much anyone interested in bullet hells.
