What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Lastly, the soundtrack is fine, though I'm not sure why they went for an '80s synthwave vibe, it doesn't really fit sometimes.
Oh yes: a gameplay that is, in a pleasant way, more immediate and a tad less intricate than some other serious contenders' (I'm thinking Axiom Verge and its slower pace here).
I mean it: nice pixel graphics, reasonably complex-but-not-so-complex maps, good overall rhythm, large bosses, compelling music... what else?
I heavily recommend using a gamepad for this one, if you don't it'll basically control like you're using an emulator: entirely keyboard/WASD based, you shoot in eight cardinal directions.
Preface: I previously had the GOG version of this game and 100%'d it there before buying it on Steam so I could play it again on my Steam Deck.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
