In fact, there are several features that are locked until you make decent progress into the first world, including additional playable characters, treasure hunts you can spend your gold on, and a quest system.
Outside of the addition of a roster of characters and an equipment system that introduces very light replayability in the form of combing old levels for previously inaccessible secrets, reviewing this is like reviewing any entry in the Bomberman series; what're you really gonna say other than, "It's Bomberman."
As for some technical points, you can't remap controls within the game, and you will want a controller ready for this.
