The gameplay is top down turn based when you get into a mission where you move your ship around until you find a point of interest where you can either explore (think banner saga choices but without the horrific impact mostly) or fight.
I'll sum it up by saying that for me, Iron Tides is a very enjoyable tactical game with great graphics and visual effects.
