But what makes Star of Providence shine is the precision and responsiveness of its core gameplay loop.
Controls are very tight and responsive, patterns are really interesting, and the weapons are a lot of fun.
The game is unforgiving at times, but never unfair—when you die, it feels like a lesson, not a punishment.
For anyone who was (like me) intimidated by the bullet hell aspect of this game, I would highly recommend turning on the hitbox marker in the graphics settings -- it helped me immensely to learn how to maneuver through the chaos.
The soundtrack is equally impressive, driving the action forward with pulsing, atmospheric tracks that shift as you progress deeper into the game’s layers.
I do consistently find myself interested with the story development in this game which I also find quite shocking because this genre is definitely not known for that element.
