While many prequels rely heavily on familiar content, this campaign takes a far more ambitious approach by completely reimagining how the game is played.
The stages consistently introduce new ideas without overwhelming the player, ensuring that the gameplay remains engaging from beginning to end.
Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment combines the core gameplay mechanics of all time Retro gaming classics such as Megaman or Castlevania and combines them with it's own innovative and interesting Story, gameplay features, Soundtrack and artwork.
It's been one of my most played games, graphics are amazing, controls (yes that thing I brought up earlier) were fluid, humor/gameplay is on point.
The combat and movement is still very fluid, but as with King of Cards some hits are less avoidable than in Shovel of Hope.
i especially enjoy hooking up a controller and playing it that way, it feels super smooth and fun, the difficulty level is really great (challenging but not unattainable), and the design is very cute!
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No themes split opinion in this sample.
No recurring complaints surfaced in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. One more theme was raised by fewer than 5 sampled reviews and is not shown.
