Raiden 5 Directors Cut is the latest in a long line of shoot 'em up’s, and has a decent soundtrack and great gameplay that’s marred by really poor UI design and out of place narration.

The soundtrack in this game is so good - much different from the remixes of previous Raiden games, and that was a welcome change.

The story that runs on the side of the playing field is your standard video game plot, but the fun part is the character dynamics between the commander, tech officer, weapons specialist, etc.

There are several difficulty levels and 3 different ships to choose from all unlocked from the start of the game which greatly increases replay value.

Basically this is more of a Story-driven version of Raiden compared to the prior arcade titles in the series-the actual gameplay is similar to Raiden 3 & 4 but with some nice new options, like being able to choose the specific versions of each power-up you want, a sort-of-co-op assist feature, and branching storyline paths which (I guess) are detemined by your skills.
