The progression systems of characters and equipment are better and slightly more streamlined than in PoE and the loot is great.

However, in spite of all of this - the flattened, goofy character writing, the progression pacing issues, the bugs, the friction between gameplay and narrative when considering companions - I love Deadfire's combat, itemization, classes, and worldbuilding so much that this is still EASILY one of my favorite games I played in 2025.
