The UI in the main menu could show space vehicles off so that the player can choose from in the main menu and see various things like stats or weapon load outs (also would be a good opportunity to show off the graphics of the game too).
It's clear the developers are trying to make this game worthwhile with stuff like upgrades, progression and the like.
