Ultimate General: Civil War

The game feels right in terms of playability, historical accuracy, fun, and replayability.

As a strategy game about the Civil War it does an excellent job in the combat system, incorporating Civil War tactics with incredibly detailed maps that accurately depict the game.

The atmosphere is good, the limited campaign offering is nice in what it does, the game runs nicely and I really enjoyed the battles in Gettysburg, so I'm extra disappointed that this just seems crushingly difficult on its normal setting, you shouldn't have to debuff the AI side to get a normal experience.

Overall, the game's battles are fun, its graphics are nice and simple, and it can feel satisfying to build an army and equip them with specific rifles and cannons.

There are some tweaks that I hope are still coming on the movement - sometimes it's hard to get a unit *exactly* where you want it - but the interface makes this game easy to pick up.

The sound design enhances immersion, with period-appropriate music, battlefield sound effects, and the echo of musket and cannon fire creating a palpable sense of chaos and urgency.
