What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The ability to pretty much travel anywhere within range and the fact that combat can only take place above planets means that intercepting enemy fleets is practically impossible, and there's no way to create choke points or turtle.
Stars in Shadow follows the traditional 4X formula — explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate — with a focus on streamlined mechanics and accessible design.
It's like MOO2 but way better graphics, design, and art and everything.
It is also REALLY hard on max difficulty with marathon speed (slow as snails research, pop growth and so on) and maximum raiders. but very fun.
However, in spite of the game's excellent art and character design the game suffers from a number of mechanical issues that just suck the fun out of the experience.
The soundtrack also does its job of getting you lost in the universe for hours, which is all it really needs to do.
