What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The story is engaging and interesting -- you play as this TOTAL ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hipster character and watch as he totally ♥♥♥♥♥ everything up for himself at every corner, making friends and losing them along the way.
It really feels like all of the gameplay portions are just an on-rails experience designed to move you with little agency from one philosophical moment to the next, and genre conventions like satisfying combat are treated like an obstruction to the art rather than a part of it.
-Visuals are gorgeous
-Soundtrack is very good
not everything from the original has been changed (the changes tend to be more additions than replacements) but what's been added and moved around has brought yiik to a very interesting game with a lot of neat ideas that struggles to communicate them to something i was compelled to play almost nonstop until completion. the combat has been fully replaced and is now much, much more fun (some people will definitely find it too easy but i'm not a super dedicated Gamer so i didn't mind), the story has been changed and added upon in ways that make its ideas infinitely more clear, multilayered, and compelling, and the best aspects of the visuals have been doubled down on in a fantastically surreal way. even the parts which have remained the same have been entirely recontextualized (you wouldn't believe how much better the long dialogue scenes work when they're supposed by actual big cutscenes and fun gameplay)!
They improved on the mind dungeon(the main way you level your character), the inventory/equipment/item systems, stats and mechanics, and even added a lovely steroid to the run button.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway.
