That about pretty much sums up the overall gameplay which is explained pretty well in the game tutorial.
If you enjoy turn-based games of expansion, conquest and resource management but you also like facing your foes head on in real-time combat this might be something you’re interested in.
Unlocking additional classes gives you more options, though both weapon loadouts and trait availability (where again, some are far superior than others).
The design of the game is both clever, as the player can affect the difficulty a lot with their own options and at the same time the game mechanics give the game itself a hard time.
Graphics are on the money, the board game'esque aestetics is pleasant to the eye and the atmosphere of it all captures the zombie apocalypse times we're all going thru' in the game world just now.
Emerge: Cities of the Apocalypse might not be the looker or the game to feature the greatest and latest in sound design but it combines 2 elements I really enjoy, explore and expand, and the sort of barricade wave defense that I greatly enjoyed from The Last Stand.
