Story and characters
Players who bring up Story and characters mostly praise it.
I think the reason I was quite so smitten is because the game took seriously both the obligation to deliver a good parlor mystery in the mold of an Agatha Christie and an interesting story that leveraged its setting's place and time in a way that was almost pedagogical.

Gameplay
Players who bring up Gameplay mostly praise it.
You are a clairvoyant who can get impressions of people's past by looking at their portrait photos, but you need to have something to anchor your impressions - so the gameplay involves figuring out the timeline by matching people to locations at specific timestamps, looking at the objects they used, etc.

Interface
Players who bring up Interface mostly praise it.
I genuinely cannot believe that it's free, given the lovely graphics, elaborate game interface (cf. a purely text-based game) and expected playtime.

Difficulty
Players who bring up Difficulty mostly praise it.
The difficulty was pitched perfectly - I had to make use of the built-in hints a couple of times, mainly when picking up the second stage of the story at the plantation, and they were always enough to get things moving again.
