What players think
The recurring themes across 233 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Revealing anymore of the story than what I did would spoil far too much but I feel the telling was well-done through environmental cues, notes and the character's own inner monologue (which is spiced up with voice-acting to boot!).
Never Again's interesting mechanics, depressing oddball storytelling, original monsters and overall package certainly make it a recommend sooner rather than later.
While the environments aren’t sprawling, they are meticulously designed, with dim lighting, subtle textures, and delicate touches that make the house feel lived-in and later, corrupted.
The music and ambient sound design do a lot of heavy lifting in crafting a mood of sorrow and unease.
The most difficult parts involve having to solve the logic puzzles while someone is chasing you, which really ramps up the difficulty, and for me ramps down the enjoyment.
