In fact, using tools and spells outside of combat for exploration is a large part of the game.

You can wander around outside combat and use abilities (light braziers after setting them back upright, manipulate terrain to traverse it, search crates, etc.) and it feels a lot like the later Ultimas, but with your party in tow, naturally.

The music is fun, the class system is interesting, the art is endearing, the story is serviceable, and there are secrets to discover all over the place!

Most humanoid enemies draw from the same class and ability pool that you do, resulting in a well-varied roster even before getting into the monsters with unique abilities.

I would highly recommend to anyone looking to satisfy a craving for FFT and willing to tolerate the graphics.

It’s something I’ll almost certainly replay in the future too, with the amount of possible combat options and the higher difficulty options (both enemy AI and enemy stats are tweakable).
