Even as a party game, Forts is at times just too random and too overwhelmingly controlled by luck, with a single bad roll ending an entire round.
Other than campaigns and modding, you can also play skirmishes against a bot with a difficulty of your choice, sandbox, where you can control both teams and basically play a match against yourself, and what many consider the best part, multiplayer.
