Mafia’s story starts in the year 1930, in the fictional US city of Lost Heaven, during the final years of Prohibition.
Well, as you can already see in the pictures, Mafia’s visuals are visibly outdated, although some places, such as Art Gallery, still look quite beautiful.
The competent voice acting also added to the story, with each character having a suitable voice and therefore helping to immerse you further into the world of Mafia.
theres a few good things i can say about this game,driving mechanics and the detailed map that go hand in hand in giving you a wonderful driving experience (only if you have a controller,the driving is abysmal if you're using a keyboard.) i highly recommend playing music while cruising around as theres no in game radio stations. and while the police system is impressive,it gets annoying from time to time as losing them require you to stay in hiding for long minutes. one thing this game does way better than modern open world games is the lack of mini maps,instead giving you a transparent map that appears on your screen upon a press of a button,more practical and it encourages you to memorize the city instead of having to stare at the corner of your screen for 50% of your playthrough.theres something that always annoyed me about this and the other mafia games, is that they make these beautiful and detailed open worlds with absolutely nothing to do. this problem is also present in the definitive edition but its still a pretty good game.
