Sora has a compelling story which is also a little bit dark.
Before I get to the review I will admittedly say that I pre-ordered this game and it's soundtrack on the premise of getting the free character "Sora (Military)" for "100% Orange Juice" and to just have some extra music to listen to.
The game's length is pretty short, under an hour of gameplay if someone were to beat the game without having to retry anything once, however, just like many retro games the game's difficulty will make it last a lot longer, when you also add in things like the escalating difficulty options, variety of different weapons for the protagonist to choose from, and just being fun, the game has quite a bit of replay value to it.
The visuals has greatly improved from SUGURI, featuring higher quality hand-drawn sprites, more lavish (if bleak) scenery, and taking advantage of better understanding of the game's engine to incorporate some interesting angles as Sora flies through the stages.
I also want to commend Fruitbat Factory for not only their impeccable localization of sora and giving Western audiences a faithful overseas release, they also went above and beyond by giving this game some great quality-of-life improvements such as higher resolution graphics along with remastered cinematic sequences, native keyboard remapping (which the original Japanese release lacked), improved controller support, and engine improvements with better compatibility on modern Windows systems.
