Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game

Some things aged very well for a 1997 game (general combat, voiced/major characters, very creative worldbuilding and lore, strong RPG mechanics, interactivity with the environment that is common with CRPGs) while others definitely show their age.

The difficulty curve of Fallout culminates in a great sense of progression, where the player starts with pretty much nothing to becoming a walking tank, and yet faces increasingly powerful challenges to the end; this is not how most modern games are made today, not without reason, but it makes for a distinguished type of design that should be experienced.

One way this game differentiates itself: combat is turn based, just like a real TTRPG, as opposed to pseudo RTS with pause combat that Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 had.

Gameplay-wise, it is dated in its combat, skewing more towards difficulty, however, there is something to be said that Fallout has a difficulty curve that's really interesting.

It's a classic for a reason and if you are into gameplay and C&C over graphics then there's still a lot to mine here and enjoy.

This game has a pretty Good atmosphere and vibe overall, tied together with a Great soundtrack and an even better story.
