This is set up from the beginning - the entire story is told as a stage play, in which you, the player, are a spectator, checking your phone or munching on cookies during the interludes.
The voice acting is really good too.
The art direction I will say isn't the best, but I really liked the story and gameplay.
The fourth wall is broken, the graphics and animations have an artificial, even somewhat low-budget quality to them (which, in my humble opinion, works great with the game and shouldn't be any different), but the game rocks its artificiality and low-budget look, and makes it not a flaw but a badge of honour.
I played this on the Oculus Rift with Xbox controller.
