The basic mechanics are the same, sure, but the arrangement of them makes for a decidedly different, and actually much tougher gameplay experience.

Since enemies can open doors too, the sound of a door opening that you didn't open yourself can frequently put you on edge, and I dare say this game actually got me to jump more times than the original Doom ever did because I was much more on-edge from the difficulty.

The floor and ceiling actually have textures which is pretty cool compared to Wolf's flat-shaded cielings.

I know this sounds like a cute family title but the action is 100% classic FPS.

The weapons themselves are satisfying to use and have some great sound design, my favorite being the Gatling slingshot which makes a delightful plop plop plop plop plop noise as you fire it, and pouring feed into a herd of oxen is just as fun as mowing down Nazis in WWII.
