What players think
The recurring themes across 164 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The basic game loop is as follows: Start game, select one of four characters (one at start, 3 unlocked by beating specific monsters, each with their own basic ability), select a spear (each with its own ability - and some are MUCH better than others...), select a monster and stage (each monster comes with accompanying modifiers that affect the stage, like bigger or faster enemies, more or less loot, more or less keydrops, etc.), hunt monster, and repeat from stage select.
They're brilliantly designed with a great art style and each demanding different fight strategies.
A controller is ideal for this movement, but I ended up on keys and mouse because I found aiming easier (and the game struggled to interpret some of the gamepad buttons reliably for me).
Not only the art design, combined with a great (and a bit repetitive) soundtrack, but also the idea itself of a space surfing Poseidon, ready to rip a variety of insect and deep-sea inspired monstrosoties is quite genius in itself.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. One more theme was raised by fewer than 4 sampled reviews and is not shown.
