- Compelling gameplay loop with lots of momentum
- Writing and artistic vision are immersive yet unobtrusive, despite being such a number-centric game; the tone is not silly nor grim, it has a very heartfelt quality that enhances the feeling of what the player is doing in the world
The thing that immediately hits you is the atmosphere of traditional Japanese woodblock print scrolls (which the game encourages you to learn more about by viewing them in the in-game museum), combined with a fitting soundtrack and extra effects that go together very well, which in my case put me in a Zen-like state of experiencing full focus on using the cards, relics, companions or anything else available to me to fulfill the needs of folktale-slach-postapocalyptic settlements that house people dispossessed by a cataclysm which turned the world into a bunch of islands floating in the sky.
The game is outright impressive in all the aspects I can think of - visuals, music, UI, novelty of gameplay, writing, polish and so on.
