So I believe that Curious Expedition serves as a commentary and critique in this angle of the story because that’s more interesting than what’s on the surface.
The other is that the game feels like it could've been a lot more than it was, and while there's plenty of love, charm and vision in it, it was very difficult not to feel like you're playing a proof-of-concept very basic gameplay loop element of a game that could really blow people's minds, of which this game is only a half or a third of.
If I'm being fair, the visuals are pretty decent in this release.
The pixel art is charming, the soundtrack is excellent, and the exploration loop is incredibly addictive.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No recurring complaints surfaced in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. One more theme was raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and is not shown.
