What players think
The recurring themes across 296 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The tone. pacing and narrative of the game I think is what makes it really special.
There is a major learning curve that must be learned and perfected under duress, where when utilizing the recommended controller to play, the left and right bumpers control the vertical looking, while the left and right triggers control horizontal looking.
Crumbling cottages, sci-fi labs, an underground village, a stone school, and so many more delightfully disgusting settings presented themselves with a wide array of colors, textures, props, and puzzles that really set each apart from the last.
Puzzles play an important role in progression and are designed with minimal hand-holding.
And while some could say "They’re way too easy, I want to be reading ancient transcripts to find out the clues" for me, a person who rushes games forward, a puzzle that does not crash your brain is the one to have fun with, and I think I did, as among all of them the only one I couldn’t figure out myself was the one with the spheres and the poem about who is guarding who or something to that degree.
Great visuals, great sound design and some really good spooks.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No recurring complaints surfaced in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 3 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
