There's a deep skill tree and ascension system (NOT prestige: you don't reset the game/progress to use it) with unit type synergies to explore leading to replayability.
Really though, a huge staple of why I don't like the game that much is that it's both mandatory AND encouraged to clean the entire map of all blocks as much as possible to unlock things, get huge bonuses, and to progress the "story", so to play properly, you need to baby each run, clicking with your underpowered click-mining to make sure to get every block mined per zone because all the units you dig with are awful at being thorough.
This game is a perfect example of "Math doesn't Math fast enough, but look at pretty graphics".
Unfortunately, the game struggled with performance issues, but I believe that to be a combination of my mediocre specs plus some repeatable issues with optimization.
