Poor Background/Multitasking Optimization: For a simulator game without a heavy story, some players like to watch something on a second monitor while playing.
Sitting there fixing a controller while rain hits the shop window, then getting up to talk to another customer or close a sale, is way more immersive than just running around an open box retail store tagging prices and guessing what you need to restock.
