Its mixture of campaign progression and multiplayer-oriented features gives it more variety than its relatively modest presentation might initially suggest.

It is a welcome feature because it gives the narrative portions some relevance to character development rather than treating conversations entirely as pauses between tactical encounters.

The cooperative / pvp side of the game is fun, but you can also play the full campaign solo if you are willing to do so.

The character design themselves are not ugly, and although overall the graphics aren't great, there is a sort of rustic charm to them (kind of like revisiting the original AoE II in 2021).

These mechanics give players several ways to strengthen their forces beyond simply gaining levels, making the preparation between battles almost as important as the decisions made during combat.
