What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Coal LLC, developed and published by Bye Bye Ocean, is a compact yet surprisingly layered indie experience that blends elements of resource management, roguelite progression, and incremental growth into a loop that quickly becomes difficult to step away from.
Won the game on my second try almost crashed my PC with how many 'employees' i had and finished all the quests as well all within 3 hours 10/10 would almost brick my PC again :)
Visually, Coal LLC adopts a clean and colorful pixel-art style that prioritizes clarity over complexity.
I do wish the controller support was finished for the full release but hopefully it'll come soon.
For those who enjoy optimization, scaling systems, and the thrill of turning small beginnings into massive operations, it provides a compelling and addictive experience that makes strong use of its modest scope.
I wish better steam deck and/or controller support was implemented though.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
