Heretic + Hexen

I don't know if it's the banger soundtrack or all the map/gameplay enhancements Nightdive did but I loved it.

I still played through without switching classes but for new players and repeat playthroughs being able to switch class and access up to a total of 12 different weapons is a benefit.

And let's also not forget the amazing remake of the soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult, who has been making headbanger after headbanger for over a decade now and he did not fail at all in his contributions here.

On top of all that Nightdive also included a number of game modifiers to improve and enhance on the game's original shortcomings, like bolstering the number of textures for Heretic to make every episode feel more unique and making certain enemies in Hexen less of a pain to put down.

And in classic Nightdive fashion, they included a variety of local and online multiplayer options where even 16 players can play together in co-op, on top of having up to 8 player splitscreen, which is absolutely nuts and I love it.

Set in a cursed world filled with demonic enemies, ominous dungeons, and eldritch relics, the game introduced innovations that were ahead of its time—such as a usable inventory system, flight mechanics through the Wings of Wrath, and the ability to look vertically within a pseudo-3D environment.
