What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
For new players, these are part of the FPS legacy and this remaster is the best and easiest way to experience that, at modern resolutions with modern niceties like full controller rebinding, etc.
Very polished gameplay, detailed map design, dynamic levels, the works.
+Andrew Hulshult's Tome of Power soundtrack is amazing!
+The level redesigns are mostly quite subtle, it starts off as areas having noticable pillars and other decorations, some areas in Heretic have new textures, banners and some Doom cute (or would it be Heretic cute) objects added in which makes a lot of natural environments look more natural, almost build-engine like and indoor areas look more like places you could imagine people (or at least crudely digitized Doom-engine people) living in, other areas like archways have extra textures to make them look curved, however, this doesn't carry over to Hexen, though there are some slight redesigns in certain areas in Hexen which do make some levels flow better.
The updated graphics look great, and the game now includes local split-screen play and cross-platform multiplayer, which is a bonus!
Heretic was always classed as Doom's medieval cousin in that it basically plays the same just with some important differences, i.e. the ability to look up and down and being able to hold and use inventory items, some are reaplacements to Doom powerups (like the Quartz flask is basically the medkit, ring of invincibility is basically the invulnerability etc.). similar story with the weapons (the dragon claw is the chaingun replacement, the hellstaff is the plasma rifle replacement etc.) but also includes some different items like the morph ovum which turns enemies into chickens and the time bomb.

Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway.
