While the alchemy is simple, it feels a lot more like the older games with actual depth and thought required to the system, especially with the colour gimmick brought back from the gacha counterpart.
Graphics and animations are also excellent and the best they have ever been in an Atelier game thanks to Team Ninja’s work with the 3D character models.
Atelier games have always been about the characters, managing resources, being rewarded for exploring and experimenting with alchemy, making choices effectively and seeing the result of your creations using the items in turn-based combat while also progressing with a focus on alchemy, on top of high quality 2D art and music.
It is very optimized and runs incredibly well and smoothly where even very old hardware and Steam Deck should have no issues running the game maxed out at a high frame rate.
