one of my favorite jrpgs of my younger days. a great narrative and great characters
The Lunar Remastered Collection features a seemingly unmodified version of the original PS1 OST, which some have complained about because the Sega Saturn Version has a superior version of the OST, while others feel that it should have perhaps been remastered, remixed, or re-recorded for higher fidelity sound.
If your idea of “definitive” means clean visuals, modern conveniences, and accessible gameplay, then this might be your go-to.
In addition, each character has their own individual inventory, as opposed to a single shared inventory, meaning that rather than simply having their own Armor/Weapons, they also have their own personal stash of recovery items, which adds another layer to the gameplay and a bit more strategy to the combat, as you need to choose each party members inventory wisely.
Gameplay/Combat: 7/10 - The combat is largely the same, with the blessed inclusion of fast-forward.
Also, it is fully steam deck compatible and looks great on oled, just make sure you cap at 60hz.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
