Grim Fandango Remastered

Well, when someone gets asked what is so great about Grim Fandango, they always pinpoint the quality of the writing firstly (or I would hope so).

Then there is the excellent voice acting and soundtrack to back it up.

As mentioned previously, whilst the character models were vastly improved through the use of enhanced textures, better cast of lighting and anti-aliasing for jagged edges, the backgrounds were left shockingly untouched.

Voice acting and subtitles for all major Western languages have also been included in this version and the models and light effects have all been refurbished, and players can not only switch between the original graphics and the updated ones (either by going into the menu or by pressing backspace on your keyboard), they can now also switch between a 4:3 and a stretched 16:9 aspect ratio at will.

the controls were also a big issue for me. i played primarily with a controller using tank controls which, although there was a learning curve, i got used to. unfortunately, sometimes the collision would be buggy and make playing with tank controls impossible. stairs and other areas would be impossible to climb, and i would have to switch to keyboard and mouse for a time. there were also some interactables, like ladders or items, that wouldn't work properly with tank controls, or would be inaccessible without mouse and keyboard. the game can also be a little unstable at times: even though it didn't happen to me, softlocks are a known issue in the game. cutscenes would sometimes hang, and i got a crash at the very end. the best remedy was, unfortunately, to save often, grin, and bear it.
