If you've played the previous game, this is more of the same kind of gameplay, but the skill system as been completely changed from a simple selection to a full and unique skill tree for each character, allowing for characters to have far more abilities and spells.

You can easily exit the dungeon any time from the menu, freely edit character skill trees, level down characters, retry bosses immediately after wiping while also being able to swap characters in and out from base.
I would call the previous game, GHPT (aka 2), essentially a re-imagining of the 2009 original game - and it was in many ways broadly shackled to how the original operated, despite the nicer graphics and added QoL.
The combination of a distinctive look for each, alongside a delightful soundtrack, make for a pleasing experience as you map each floor out and get into fights.
