The atmosphere and narrative are also wonderful, but they do take a lot of cues from Ico and silent cinematic platformers of old (not a bad thing, actually a very good thing, but this is something I find a lot of games find easily to replicate without being able to actually provide an interesting game beneath it.
Not because I do not believe a single person cannot create something incredible, but because there's the fear that you will experience a few really good ideas that will be built upon to the point that the gameplay - whilst still very good...
Like that game, Hypogea communicates emotion and narrative through visuals, music, and environmental cues rather than dialogue.
Sound design deepens this effect—the echoes of mechanical clanks, distant drones, and the subtle scrape of your staff all help sell the illusion of a massive hollow space.
it was a really fun experience even though the game play was a little clunky and id recommend it to people who like the vibe of it but dont expect difficulty or hard puzzles or replayability
Also I played this entirely on Steam Deck and it runs flawlessly and frankly, the game looks way better on a small LCD where the lower resolution really ties all the geometry together.
