Gameplay-wise, Sonic Rumble is fine.
Almost, if not all the "default characters" can be obtained in a reasonably quick manner if you just play the game.
Like any PvP focused game that's been out for over a year, the new player experience is automatically awful.

+ there is a few single player content you can complete a few challenges and if you have a 4 sonic rumble friends group you also can finish them in coop which is pretty fun
