The roster of spells available to you, both starting and unlockable, are fun and enjoyable, albeit with some very similar spells but also some very distinct spells, so you have spells like Astral Orbs and Magic Missile (which on the surface, are the same except one is slower and pierces), but the Devs did a good job making the upgrades and augments help them feel more distinct in the later game.
