What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The blend of real-time strategy, empire building, and historical progression remains incredibly fun, and it's easy to see why so many people consider it a classic.
While some visuals and UI oddities remain from its original release, the core gameplay, challenging AI, and broad empire-building options ensure hours of engaging, tactical fun for newcomers and veteran strategists alike—an RTS worth (re)discovering!
Multiplayer is also great, love playing with my friend, we'll tag team a group of computers on the hardest difficulty, we actually have to save the game because it takes so long to finish, we'll start playing early evening and fishing the next day in the late afternoon, it's insane.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 5 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
