First, you can actually play this port with a keyboard, you don't really need a controller.
It's like the one shmup in the whole world that feels good on the steam deck to me because it uses the whole screen and it requires a twin stick controller to move and aim at the same time anyway so the deck's built in controller is the best thing to use.
