What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
- Most characters are not as annoying as most other JRPGs (which isn't saying a lot but the cast is a very typical fantasy cast; nothing really new done here sans a few exceptions).
The gameplay has evolved nicely from its previous incarnations.
The cel-shaded visuals are beautiful and timeless and collecting monsters as well as the combat system are both fun and accessible while still offering incredible depth and room for experimentation.
It also runs perfectly fine on the Steam Deck which is a huge plus in my book.
There are sound effects here and there, but considering you spend most of your time chilling in the overworld, it would have been nice to have a distinct soundtrack for each area.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway.
